Science Film Festival in the Philippines 8th Edition
In 2016, the Goethe-Institut Philippinen organized the Science Film Festival for the 7th time. The opening day featured a special screening of the film “A Beautiful Planet” at the IMAX Theater in SM Megamall. This marked the first time for the Science Film Festival to have a screening in 3D IMAX and was made possible through the cooperation with IMAX and SM. After the screening, members of the Philippine Robotics Team through the coordination with FELTA Multimedia had an exhibition entitled “Rap the Scrap” where they showcased three robots invented by young students out of recycled materials. They did a demonstration on how these robots can help in waste management.
31 films from all over the world were screened from November 8 to December 16 in different museums, libraries, science centers, schools and universities through the help of partners like the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Education, Museo Pambata, The Mind Museum, Philippine Science Centrum, Quezon City Science Interactive Center, the National Library of the Philippines, CFC Cornerstone, Liceo de Cagayan and Xavier University. In total, the event reached more than 177 000 in attendance.
