Residency
Residency in the Klaipėda Region and on the Curonian Spit

The Goethe-Institut Lithuania invites cultural journalists, scholars, authors and other cultural practitioners to a residency in autumn 2026 supporting projects on German–Lithuanian themes. The stay offers space for research, networking and the development of a contribution intended for publication. Applications are welcome until 14 April 2026.

Conditions of funding

Cultural journalists, scholars, authors, and other cultural practitioners from Germany with professional publication experience who are active in the German-language media, publishing, or cultural sectors. Experience or prior knowledge related to the topic is welcome.

The funding includes:
  • A stipend of €2,000 for four weeks, prorated according to the length of stay.
  • Travel expenses (one-time, for arrival and departure to/from Lithuania)
  • Accommodation (free use of an apartment in Klaipėda or on the Curonian Spit).
The resident is responsible for their own insurance arrangements.

A jury composed of representatives of the Goethe-Institut and local partners selects one resident based on the quality and relevance of the proposed project. Legal recourse is excluded.

  • Statement of purpose (max. 1 page) outlining your project and its relevance to the residency theme. Please also indicate the medium in which you intend to publish the work resulting from the residency and the approximate publication date.
  • Curriculum vitae including contact details and a list of previous publications.
  • Overview of previous publication outlets (e.g., newspapers, magazines, online media, personal channels), including — where relevant — information on publication formats and reach. Please include links to selected publications.
  • Selected publication(s) or writing sample(s) as examples of your work.
  • Indication of your preferred residency location (Klaipėda or the Curonian Spit), preferred duration (one to four weeks), and preferred dates within September–October 2026.
  • Information on any special needs (e.g., related to family or accessibility) so that we can assess if and how we can accommodate the needs.
  • Optional: A reference letter.
