Translators-in-Residence programme
DRESDEN-HELLERAU
The accommodation provided by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is situated within the grounds of the Hellerau Festival Theatre, a protected historic site in north Dresden with good public transport links to the city centre.
We offer four six- to eight-week stays in Dresden-Hellerau from 30 March to 30 November 2026.
ELBEHAUS (HAMBURG)
The Toepfer Foundation's Elbehaus was reopened at the beginning of 2023 after a lengthy renovation phase. The house on Elbchaussee is now being used as part of a residential scholarship that allows up to three scholarship holders to spend between two and six months studying at the same time.
The translator will be provided with a private, furnished accommodation unit in the Elbehaus. The common rooms of the house can be used communally during the stay or individually by arrangement. In addition to the opportunity for undisturbed work and activity, the communal living together of the scholarship holders is intended to promote interdisciplinary exchange, dialogue and encounters.
We offer an eight-week stay at the Elbehaus from 1 September to 31 October 2026.
GUT SIGGEN
Siggen is located 20 kilometres east of Oldenburg in Holstein, 70 kilometres north of Lübeck and 70 kilometres east of Kiel. In addition to the manor house and the seminar building, there is a large barn and other farm buildings on the estate. The Baltic Sea beach, which offers good bathing opportunities, is just a 15-minute walk away.
Only those who are looking for a very quiet and secluded working stay in the Holstein countryside should apply for the residence in Siggen. Due to the seminars held on site, there are always periods when groups are present. During this time, scholarship holders are invited to join in the communal meals. When there are no groups on site, the estate is a very quiet place. Individuals who do not enjoy rural seclusion and silence are advised not to apply.
We are offering two six-week stays at Gut Siggen from 1 June to 11 July or 27 July to 6 September 2026
