Residency
Writer-in-residence in Reykjavik

German-speaking authors working in the fields of fiction, poetry, drama or children's and young adult literature are eligible to apply. The prerequisite is that they have published at least two books and that at least one of these has been translated into English or a Scandinavian language. Applicants are also expected to live and work primarily in Germany.

The aim of this residency programme is to provide an opportunity to conduct research for a literary project that has Iceland as its starting point or source of inspiration. The scholarship holder will have the opportunity to get to know the local literary scene, to establish and deepen contacts, and to exchange ideas.

The scholarship holder is expected to work together with the team of Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature at readings and other literature-related activities. The team at UNESCO City of Literature Reykjavík will facilitate contacts with individuals and institutions and also offer to organise readings or other events.

The scholarship is endowed with €2,000 for the entire period. It also includes free use of an apartment in Reykjavík. In addition, there is a one-time reimbursement for travel expenses to and from Iceland.

The duration of the stay is one month in spring 2027.
Dates of stay: 1 – 31 March 2027.

Residence is mandatory. Scholarship holders are responsible for their own insurance (international health insurance, accident and liability insurance, etc.).

The Goethe-Institut Dänemark, in consultation with Reykjavik UNESCO City of Literature, decides on the award on the basis of the quality and relevance of the project proposal submitted for the stay in Reykjavik. There is no right of appeal.
