The cultural and creative industries in South Africa are highly fragmented and their players have only limited visibility. In addition, there is little knowledge as yet of how it could be strengthened over the long term and sustainably. This means that there is great potential for strengthening exchange and dialogue between civil society organisations in the creative sector.
The "Cav’ Platform" project is intended to contribute to the existing efforts of governmental and civil society organisations to strengthen the cultural and creative industries by networking and raising the visibility of the sector.
The aim of the "Cav’ Platform" is to create a space for networking and resource exchange. This is implemented through various exchange formats such as conferences, a virtual platform and support in the development of sustainable business models for umbrella organisations. In doing so, the industry is supported in identifying needs and developing strategies that can better meet the requirements of the cultural and creative industries.
The project “Cultural and Creative Industries” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. It improves employment and income opportunities for creative professionals in six partner countries; Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa and operates mainly in the music, fashion, design and animation sectors. In addition to promoting the development of entrepreneurial, digital, creative and technical skills through training programmes, the project aims to strengthen the framework conditions and the ecosystem of the cultural and creative industries.
