Our public library stocks a representative and up-to-date selection of media in both German and English, keeping you informed about latest trends and current issues in Germany.We hold special collections in our main areas of German as a foreign language, contemporary literature, film and art and contemporary history. Amongst which you will find apart from books also feature films and documentaries (with English subtitles), as well as music CDs and audio books.
Magazines on offer
(english "The Mirror") is a German weekly news magazine, published in Hamburg. It is one of Europe's largest publications of its kind, with a weekly circulation of more than one million. Der Spiegel is similar in style and layout to American news magazines such as Time or Newsweek. In terms of the breadth and amount of detail in its articles it is comparable to the Atlantic Monthly. It is known in Germany for its distinctive, academic writing style and its large volume—a standard issue may run 200 pages or more.
is part of a family of educational monthly magazines which are published by the Gruner Verlag in Hamburg. Similar to the National Geographic magazine, it focuses on themes as diverse as science, medicine, biology, politics and travel, and is known for its profound reports, which are accompanied by opulent pictures.
(english "Your Mirror") is a monthly German magazine aimed at children aged between 8 and 14. The magazine provides news in an appealing and educative way mirror those in Der Spiegel, but they are offered in an age-appropriate manner and entertaining and educational way. Topics covered include stories of politics, economics, nature and technology, culture, sport and people in Germany and other countries. Jokes, comics and puzzles add the fun factor.

Registration for Membership
You can register online on our website. Please fill in the Online Registration form beforehand, to enter the most important data for your registration and to confirm your mail address in advance. Then please come to the library within the following 14 days to complete the enrolment process. Please bring along current proof of address (i.e. driving licence, utility bill, etc) and, if applicable, proof for concessionary* rate. This will enable us to issue your new library card right away.And, of course, you can also register in person during a visit to the library.

Books, CDs and magazines: 4 weeks

Self-Checkout System
In the library you can use the Self-Checkout system for borrowing, extending and returning library materials.
Simply follow the instructions on the screen.
Renewals
The loan period may be extended twice (except magazines), provided that other library users have not reserved the materials. Renewal of loans can be made anytime via the online catalogue, with our self-service-kiosk in the library or by contacting the library issue desk during staffed service times.
