Music Current Festival

The Goethe-Institut Irland is delighted to present a concert by the Decoder Ensemble from Hamburg as part of the Music Current Festival 2020, an annual contemporary music festival produced by Dublin Sound Lab in collaboration with various partners. This year the festival runs from 14 April to 18 April and includes seven concerts by Irish and international artists as well as participation workshops.

Founded in Hamburg in 2011, the Decoder Ensemble is an innovative young group in contemporary music. Distinguished by their high-energy performances, distinct combination of electric and acoustic instruments and voice as well as their embracing of multimedia and electronics within their repertoire, each concert programme is a choreography of lighting, video, electronic sounds and live performance.

One of the main focuses of the ensemble is the collaboration with young composers and providing them with a platform to realise their works at the highest level. All of the members of Decoder specialise in the performance of contemporary music, with 3 members doubling as composers. In their first visit to Ireland the group presents a programme of works by resident composers Alexander Schubert and Andrej Koroliov as well as multimedia works by Michael Beil and Malte Giesen.
