Join us for a night of art and culture at the Opening Reception for Berlin Underground.

Celebrate the opening of Goethe-Institut Washington's newest exhibition, with works by Hito Steryl, Ming Wong, Alicja Kwade, Candice Breitz, and more from the collection at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) Video-Forum in Berlin. Sip on drinks from Dupont Underground's World Pride Speakeasy, as you immerse yourself in the groundbreaking video works from Berlin.

About the exhibition

An innovative exhibition, marking Berlin’s global legacy of artistic excellence, openness, tolerance, and freedom of expression, coming to the U.S. capital this summer in celebration of World Pride.

In connection with Berlin Underground, members of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) will present one-day only programming that highlights the artistic excellence, commitment to freedom of expression, openness and tolerance found in their nation’s respective capitals.

Exhibition Partners

Goethe-Institut Washington – The worldwide cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institut supports international cultural exchange and is a hub for art, ideas, education, and social discourse.

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) – Founded in 1971, n.b.k.'s Video-Forum is a cornerstone of video art history in Europe. With a collection that spans over five decades, it highlights radical experimentation and social commentary through moving image.

Dupont Underground – The arts organization Dupont Underground is transforming 15,000 sqft of abandoned space under Dupont Circle into a platform for creative exchange and contemporary arts in the vibrant City Washington D.C.
