Ein Labor für Ideen

Das Goethe-Institut Boston öffnet seine einzigartigen, flexiblen Räumlichkeiten in der Back Bay für Künstler und Kreative als "Labor" für Ideen.

Studio 170 ist mehr als nur eine weitere Galerie oder ein Konzertsaal. Es bietet Künstlern und Publikum einen offenen, lebendigen Ort der Inspiration, des Experiments und des offenen Diskurses im Herzen von Boston. Mit diesem neuen Format lädt das Goethe-Institut Boston Künstler aus Neuengland aus allen Bereichen der künstlerischen Praxis ein, unseren neu renovierten Raum zu nutzen, um zu experimentieren, zu innovieren und sich mit unserer internationalen Gemeinschaft zu vernetzen.

Studio 170 wurde 2019 ins Leben gerufen, um den einzigartigen, flexiblen Raum des Goethe-Instituts Boston als "Labor" für Ideen für Künstler aus Neuengland aus allen Bereichen der künstlerischen Praxis zu öffnen. Eine Jury aus Kuratoren und Kulturschaffenden aus Neuengland wählt jedes Jahr eine neue Gruppe von Künstlern aus den eingegangenen Bewerbungen aus. Seit der Gründung des Programms haben acht Künstler und Künstlerkollaborationen im Rahmen von zweiwöchigen Aufenthalten Projekte entwickelt. Es ist geplant, das Programm zu erweitern, um den transatlantischen Dialog und den Austausch zwischen Künstlern durch Einzel- und Gemeinschaftsaufenthalte in Neuengland und Deutschland zu fördern.

Ena Kantardžić and Sylvie Mayer: I promise, mute body

The exhibition is a stage. The Grand Hall features seats for an audience, present and absent concurrently. The stage constructed for the exhibition is not only a literal one, but a conceptual one, that functions in the round, both through time and space.

Artists Ena Kantardžić and Sylvie Mayer develop a two-person experiential exhibition of works called I promise, mute body that includes generative choreography and performance led by Mary Ann Mayer.

Yide Cai: Steeped

Steeped(品) is a metatheatrical play about a teabag who died a thousand deaths, and literally a rehearsal for the revolution that reimagines the Boston Tea Party from the perspective of the tea itself at its 250th anniversary.

Playwright Yide Cai, theater director and dramaturg Skye Xiaotian Lu and designer Qingan Zhang develop a workshop production version of the play as an in-progress, site-responsive staging that works for flexible, nontraditional spaces: a performance that unfolds among the audience, collapsing rehearsal and performance.
