What does punk mean when it's already been declared dead? Millennial Punk – Eine Subkultur in Zeiten der Digitalisierung looks at the punk scene of the 1990s and early 2000s through the voices of the people who lived it.

We're screening the first two episodes of the four-part documentary series. After the screening, writer Diana Ringelsiep and director Felix Bundschuh join us for a conversation and Q&A.

The series was made in 2024. Musicians, journalists and activists from the scene look back on a time when punk was often written off as a thing of the past. Beyond the music, the series explores punk's lasting ties to anti-discrimination, anti-fascism and diversity, and asks what it takes to keep Punk's not dead! alive in an increasingly digital world.

Episodes 3 and 4 screen the following evening, November 5.

  • Diana Ringelsiep

Diana Ringelsiep (1985) studied Cultural Journalism at the Berlin University of the Arts (M.A.). The freelance journalist now lives and works in the Ruhr area.

Following investigative research in the Southeast Asian underground, she published the book “A Global Mess: Eine SubkulTour durch Südostasien” with Felix Bundschuh in 2019. In 2020, an article she published in Kaput Magazine sparked a nationwide debate about sexism in subcultures. This was followed in 2022 by her highly acclaimed anthology “Punk as F*ck: Die Szene aus FLINTA-Perspektive”, co-edited with Ronja Schwikowski.

Since then, feminism has become a key focus of her work. Since 2023, she has regularly analyzed patriarchal gender roles and structures within pop culture in her podcast “Krawalle & Liebe” (Riots & Love). She also regularly brings this feminist perspective to the stage with her co-host Sabrina Waffenschmidt. With Bundschuh she also wrote and directed the four-part SWR documentary “Millennial Punk” (available in the ARD Mediathek since 2024), which builds directly on her political work.

  • Felix Bundschuh

Felix Bundschuh believes that everybody has a story to tell. It has always been the stories that got to him first and the music second, which is an odd thing to admit after years in the music industry, working in A&R and product management at Century Media Records and helping to build the label Music for Millions at RTL.

In 2018 he travelled through Asia’s underground for “A Global Mess”, a book and documentary he made with Diana Ringelsiep, and with “Millennial Punk”, which the two of them wrote and directed for SWR and ARD, he finally told the story of his own generation. The German magazine stern wrote that the series demonstrates that punk is still alive.

Felix lives in Berlin, where he is head of marketing at Second Ride, a company that electrifies classic motorbikes. With his coaching practice Internal Expedition he helps people find their own story and tell it on their own terms.
