Would you like to understand what’s behind the term postcolonialism and why it is essential in a globalised world to deal with the development of the countries of the Global South?
In five themed modules for independent study, the online training “Between Colonialism and Decolonisation: A Critical Introduction” offers you an introduction to important topics such as cultural heritage and restitution, the economic, political and cultural relations between countries of the Global North and South, the importance of language as well as perspectives on a future without postcolonial power relations.
To this end, some 35 articles and video contributions by global experts provide insight and food for thought that address the topic of colonialism and its impact on the present. For example, Kenyan professor of literature Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o emphasises the importance of decolonising language, while Peruvian anthropologist Rodrigo Montoya Rojas’ contribution demonstrates how colonial power is linked to capitalist developments. In addition, a quiz as well as follow-up questions to each module provide opportunities to reflect on oneself and one’s environment. The renowned expert on postcolonialism Professor Nikita Dhawan from the TU Dresden introduces each of the five modules with a video contribution and thus facilitates the introduction to the topics.
