The European Union promotes cultural and creative industries through the establishment of a novel instrument, the knowledge and innovation community EIT Culture & Creativity.
This agency, affiliated to the European Institute for Innovation and Technology, was founded on 5 April 2023 as a non-profit association based in Cologne, with the Goethe-Institut joining as a founding member.
The EIT Culture & Creativity has an initial term of 15 years and is funded by the EU with approximately 50 million euros per year. These funds are primarily used for public calls for proposals for arts- and culture-driven innovation projects. The first calls for proposals were published in April 2023.
