JENGA CCI strove to sustainably expand and promote the cultural and creative industries in Kenya using an integrative educational and promotional approach. These goals were put into practice through the qualification of actors in the cultural and creative industries and capacity building, as well as through the support of business development models and economic and legal advice for creative enterprises. In cooperation with local partners, various areas of the creative sector were examined and strengthened through individual projects.
Examples included the PerFORM Music Incubator, a three-month programme which, in addition to training live performances, supported participants with individual business models which helped them market their music productively, sustainably and independently, or the VR project State of the ARt, a training programme for virtual and augmented-reality artists which qualified them for the digital art market.
The project Cultural and Creative Industries was jointly implemented from late 2018 until early 2023 by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Goethe-Institut on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It improved employment and income opportunities for creative professionals in six partner countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa. The project operated mainly in the music, fashion, design and animation sectors. In addition to promoting the development of entrepreneurial, digital, creative and technical skills through training programmes, the project aimed to strengthen the framework conditions and the ecosystem of the cultural and creative industries.
