Interested in German books? Join us in person at the Goethe-Institut Glasgow for a discussion (in German) about the novel 'The Blurriness of the World' (Die Unschärfe der Welt) by Iris Wolff. New members welcome!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Iris Wolff tells the moving story of a family from the Banat whose ties are so tightly woven that they do not break even across borders. A novel about people from four generations, which relates loss and new beginnings in an enchantingly poetic way.

Would Florentine and Hannes even have opened their door to the two young travellers if they had known what role the visit from the GDR would play in the lives of the Banat family? Would Samuel have stood by his best friend Oz wholeheartedly even if he had known the extent of his decision? In "The Blurriness of the World", the lives of seven people, seven elective relatives, are interconnected. Despite strokes of fate and spatial distances, they move incessantly towards each other. Against the backdrop of the collapsing Eastern Bloc and the eventful history of the 20th century, a great novel is created that asks what we are willing to give up for the happiness of others.

Nominated for the German Book Prize 2020, the Bavarian Book Prize in the fiction category 2020 and the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize 2020.
