Advancing digital competencies and international news exchange through a mobility grant

By Emir Basic

As part of the grant titled “The international mobility grants second call for employees of Western Balkan public service broadcasters”, I had the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and practical skills in post-production, video and audio editing, animation, and digitalization, as well as to explore innovative working models and successful operational processes in the fields of media, technology, and artificial intelligence. These newly acquired competencies will significantly enhance my daily professional activities. A substantial portion of my responsibilities involves the international EVN and ERNO news exchange between members of the European Broadcasting Union. Ensuring that materials, news reports, and stories from Bosnia and Herzegovina are delivered in the highest technical, video, and audio quality is of paramount importance.

The first segment of my grant focused on advanced training in post-production and professional development in video and audio processing. During a two-week intensive course in Belgrade, Serbia, from 22 June to 5 July 2025, I attended a comprehensive five-hour daily training program covering Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects, the most widely used software solutions for video editing, audio channel correction, stabilization, animation, graphics, and color correction. During my stay in Belgrade, I also had the opportunity to visit colleagues at Radio Television of Serbia, where we exchanged experiences and best practices in international news exchange and operational workflows, further strengthening our professional cooperation.

The second segment of my grant included participation in “All Digital Summit 2025” in Valletta, Malta, from 10–12 September 2025. Hundreds of digital leaders, educators, innovators, and change makers from across the globe gathered at the Mediterranean Conference Centre – a landmark overlooking Valletta’s historic harbor – to exchange ideas, forge meaningful connections, and shape the future of digital skills, inclusion, and citizenship.

This event provided an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insights into digital transformation in the media sector, emerging technologies, the application of artificial intelligence, and the challenges posed by disinformation and fake news. In addition to expanding my knowledge, I established numerous professional connections that will contribute to my future work and international collaboration.

The third and final segment of my grant consisted of job shadowing at RTV Slovenia from 21–23 January 2026. This concluding phase allowed me to consolidate the knowledge and experience gained throughout the grant period. Together with the highly professional and supportive colleagues at RTV Slovenia, I was introduced to their operational model and daily working principles. I gained deeper insight into the organizational structure, internal coordination mechanisms, division of responsibilities, daily workflows, problem-solving processes, and their methods of preparing and editing video content, stories, and live broadcasts for both domestic and international news exchange.

I would like to once again express my sincere gratitude for the awarded grant and to extend my appreciation to the Goethe-Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union for their trust and support. This opportunity has enabled me to significantly advance my expertise, acquire new professional skills, and gain valuable experience that will have a lasting impact on my daily work. I remain committed to applying this knowledge in practice and sharing it with my colleagues at Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
