Working with Documentary Content: A DW Mobility Experience
Strengthening Documentary Storytelling Through International Mobility
By Ehlimana Hodzic, RTVFBiH
Although Berlin welcomed me with cold and rainy weather, the openness and professionalism of the DW Documentary team brought a positive and motivating atmosphere to my first days of the mobility.
During this time, I had the opportunity to gain insight into how documentary films are prepared for broadcast and distribution. As DW also works with films that are not part of its own production, an important part of the process includes reviewing and adapting such content.
I actively participated with the team in fact-checking, adjusting film durations, and working on other editorial refinements required for final presentation.
What I found particularly valuable was the approach to promotion and distribution of documentary content, especially in the digital world. I actively took part in adapting longer documentary formats into short-form video content for online and social media platforms, including contributing to the structure and shaping of these shorter formats. This highlighted the importance of reaching audiences where they are today.
This experience helps me rethink my own approach to storytelling and explore new ways of connecting with audiences through both long and short formats. The exchange of ideas with colleagues has been inspiring and has already opened new perspectives for future work and collaboration.
