Stories Beneath the Surface: Exploring Western Balkan Legends

By Western Balkan Myth Busters

Western Balkan Myth Busters is a documentary series on YouTube that explores the rich tapestry of myths and legends from across the Western Balkans. Targeting a younger audience (19–23), each 5–8 minute episode combines cinematic storytelling with journalistic inquiry, presenting stories through two perspectives: firsthand accounts from locals and expert insights from historians and researchers. The project reinterprets traditional folklore in a modern, engaging format, making regional heritage accessible to new audiences.

Conceived by Djordje Slavkovic (RTS) and produced by Roana Balillari and Lushe Pergjegji (RTSH), the project brings together young media professionals from public institutions across the region. The series consists of four episodes filmed on location: The Cave of Drowning (Albania), Pirates’ Treasure (Montenegro), The Lamia of Lake Ohrid (North Macedonia), and Murder in the Roman Well (Serbia). In addition to the episodes, the team produced a complete visual package, including promotional videos, social media content, posters, and branding elements, strengthening the project’s digital presence and audience engagement.
