The Guesthouse residency program is open to visual artists, film-makers, sound artists, collaborative groups, curators and enthusiastic chefs to facilitate and encourage innovation, experimentation, collaboration and cross-disciplinary exchange.
The Guesthouse is located in the historic Shandon district of Cork, within walking distance from the city centre and all major public transport hubs.
The Guesthouse offers Irish and international artists the space and time to work on their proposed projects. Residencies can vary in duration and are on average one month long. Selected artists will have access to work space, equipment and facilities at the Guesthouse.
Artists are facilitated with a loft apartment with a double bedroom and living area with extra pull out bed and has a kitchenette and bathroom downstairs. The residency does not have a designated studio/workshop, but there is an adaptable space suitable for computer or desk based work or light fabrication. This space can also be used for exhibitions of work, performance, presentation and discussion. The space is free of charge but the organisers encourage residents to contribute to the programme by offering to host a lunch, do a presentation, workshop, performance or exhibition.
The Guesthouse is a visual artist-led initiative, founded in 2004 by the Cork Artists Collective in partnership with Cork City Council. The residency programme, which includes both residential and non-residential short-term stays, offers an opportunity for local, national and international individuals or collective groups to develop projects and to test out ideas and strategies for exhibition, performance, publication etc among peer audiences.
Application for residencies and use of the space are through open submission or invitation. Residency call outs happen annually and have a deadline each year. Application forms can be downloaded from the Guesthouse’s website and are accepted via email only.
