Migration is more than movement. It is a shared human experience.

“Routes & Roots” brings together artists, activists, diaspora communities, and people with lived experience for a series of international online conversations exploring migration through four interconnected stages: origin, transit, destination, and return. Through art, personal storytelling, and lived experience, the series creates a space for meaningful dialogue and exchange, inviting participants to look beyond headlines and engage with the human experiences at the heart of migration.

The series consists of four conversations centered on interconnected, though not necessarily linear, stages of migration: origin, transit, destination, and return. Bringing together diverse voices from across regions and disciplines, these discussions examine the complexities of migration and the ways it influences and enriches societies, identities, and collective imaginaries.

Oct 26, 1-2.30pm ET | Routes & Roots Part 1: Origin
Origin explores the motivations, aspirations, and fears that drive the decision to migrate, and how migration shapes local realities even before the journey begins.
With artists Paloma Vianey, Corazón de Robota, and moderator Katrin Hansing.
Registration

Nov 9, 1pm ET | Routes & Roots Part 2: Transit
Transit focuses on the often precarious and transformative journey, where borders, violence, bureaucracy, and solidarity coexist.
Registration

Nov 23, 1pm ET | Routes & Roots Part 3: Destinations
Destination analyses what it means to arrive, settle, and rebuild a life in a new country, exploring belonging, identity, integration, cultural exchange, and societal exclusion.
Registration

Dec 7, 1pm ET | Routes & Roots Part 4: Return
Return reflects on what happens when people go back – voluntarily or by force – and how this experience can reshape the notions of home, identity, and belonging for individuals and communities, presenting return not as an end point, but as part of a complex and often cyclical migration process.
Registration

All conversations will be streamed live on Zoom and are open worldwide. See the dark blue overview below for session details and registration. Additional information on the participants in sessions three and four is coming soon.
