Empowering Youth Voices on Mental Health Across the Western Balkans

Give Yourself: A Booth Talk Series for Youth is an EU-funded group project implemented between March 2025 and May 2026 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Kosovo*. Led by Ramanda Shehu, Klejda Piroviç, and Ahmed Bradarić (RTVFBiH), the project addressed one of the most pressing yet often stigmatized issues among young people today: mental health.

By combining storytelling, expert insight, and cultural exchange, the project created a safe and relatable space where young people could see their own experiences reflected and validated.

At the core of the initiative was the production of six full-length episodes of A Booth Talk Series for Youth. The episodes were recorded in urban locations to ensure accessibility and relevance to the primary target group—young people aged 18 to 25 in the Western Balkan region.
Each episode featured conversations with:

  • Young people and youth leaders,
  • Local community voices,
  • Psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health professionals.
Creating Safe Spaces for Dialogue

The “booth talk” format proved especially effective in encouraging open discussion. By creating an intimate and comfortable interview setting, participants felt empowered to speak honestly about topics such as stress, anxiety, self-identity, social pressure, and access to mental health support.

Importantly, the project emphasized cultural dialogue and exchange, highlighting how mental health challenges are both universal and shaped by local context. Viewers were able to gain insight into similarities and differences across the region, reinforcing a sense of shared experience and regional solidarity.
