Digital and media art in India has largely flourished outside of art institutions, be it the museum, art school, or art gallery. Due to its experimental and often collaborative nature, it has emerged in unconventional settings—workshops, temporary setups, online spaces, apartments, independent art spaces, and so on. 

Media and digital artworks are produced within specific material, aesthetic, and technological contexts and conditions, the functions of which artists creatively and critically repurpose in unanticipated ways. Much of this work is ephemeral, leaving behind partial and at times defunct traces, rather than stable records. This festival is an occasion to trace some of these histories of media art practice in India. 

Unfolding across multiple formats—exhibition, workshops, interactive timeline, live performances, and a symposium, it reflects on how media and digital art has shaped the contemporary art ecosystem in India, while often existing at its edges, outside formal structures, in experimental and in short-lived formats. The festival invites artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners to collectively rethink what digital and media art means in our intensely mediated world today.
