BreAIk, ChAInge, RegenerAIte is an art–technology residency that invites artists, cultural producers, designers, and creative professionals to explore how AI creates our worlds, rather than seeing the world through AI. By engaging with multiple AI stakeholders—technology developers, regulators, entrepreneurs, and activists—the cohort is invited to insert art into artificial intelligence. The residency encourages participants to reposition themselves in relation to these AI systems. It is a hybrid, collaborative, critical, and process-oriented residency.

The residency works on the model of swarms and clusters. Residents will “swarm” together for three residencies in Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

The second swarm, in Kolkata, is a working space. It is not a formal workshop, a presentation series, or a final showcase. Rather, it is an opportunity for the cohort to reflect on how their practices have evolved since the first residency and to think collectively about what might travel toward Mumbai for the final presentation.

The cohort will think together about the AI imaginaries, anxieties, crises, and possibilities that feel most urgent today. Each artist or artist collective will host one session for the group. This space invites others into individual practices, methods, works-in-progress, questions, experiments, or processes.

Participants will also reflect on these sessions and begin thinking about possible forms, formats, and journeys for the Festival of Ideas in Mumbai.

The Kolkata swarm will focus on returning to the residency after Bengaluru, sharing how and where work, questions, or methods have shifted, inviting others into individual practices, receiving careful and useful feedback, noticing affinities across the cohort, and considering how different practices might sit together, while beginning to imagine the Mumbai presentation. The aim is not to produce polished work during the week, but to build shared understanding, trust, and curatorial imagination for the next stage of the residency.
