Germany 1960, a year before the construction of the Berlin Wall: The East German farmer Hermann Güden has had enough of the state-run harassment of the SED superiors. He is no longer willing to submit to forced collectivization and so he plans to flee to the West. But the SED apparatchiks get wind of the matter. When Güden passes through an accident scene where a police officer lifts the stop trowel, Güden loses his nerves for fear of being arrested
