Gender Bender 2022 © Sandbox Collective

After two years of being restricted to the digital space Gender Bender is BACK offline!

In its 8th edition we continue to celebrate all things gender - from theatre, storytelling, dance, music, talks and books to installations, workshops, photography, podcasts and paintings. Over three days we will occupy the Bangalore International Centre to showcase the works of the ten artists who have received the Gender Bender grant this year, as well as works by numerous others, as part of some very exciting curated events.

Gender Bender, India’s first multi-disciplinary arts festival that focuses on fresh perspectives of gender, is conceived and conceptualised by Sandbox Collective and is a joint project with the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore. What started as a platform to display the works of the grantees, has over the last eight years, grown into a much needed and recognised space for important conversations that aim to contribute to our constantly evolving understanding of gender and its implications, including the need for intersectionality, with artists and audiences alike. Over 90 individuals have been awarded the Gender Bender grant in the last 8 years and the festival has received acclaim both nationally and globally and has been presented internationally in Berlin in January 2020, and showcased at Wolfsburg, Germany in 2022.
