‘Returning Sound’ is a specially curated series of music programmes presented every month at the institute. The programme is curated focusing on experimental music written by independent electronic music producers.

Budhaditya Chattopadhyay (India)
Budhaditya Chattopadhyay is a media artist, performer, researcher, and writer. He produces works for large-scale installation and live performance addressing contemporary issues of environment and ecology, migration, race, and decoloniality. His works have been widely exhibited, performed, or presented across the globe. Budhaditya Chattopadhyay has an expansive body of scholarly publications in artistic research, media theory and aesthetics in leading peer-reviewed journals. He is the author of four books: The Nomadic Listener (2020), The Auditory Setting (2021), Between the Headphones (2021), and Sound Practices in the Global South (2022). Budhaditya Chattopadhyay holds a PhD in Artistic Research and Sound Studies from the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts, Leiden University, and is currently a Visiting Professor at the Critical Media Lab, Basel, Switzerland.
Varun Desai is a multi-disciplinary artist and an electronic musician as well as a computer engineer working in the field of music production and arts management. He’s been a teacher and lecturer for both hardware and software platforms, as well as a graphic designer, creative coder, video artist and instrument maker. He is the founder of Synthfarm, an annual music and technology residency and is the Director of the Kolkata Jazzfest. His company Littlei has been producing music events in Kolkata since 2007 and encourages the development of new art and music traditions.
This programme is open to all.
