NORDIC-LEIPZIG III - Scholarship of the Goethe-Institut

Regarding artists working and living in: Færøer Islands, Iceland, Greenland, North-Finland, North-Norway, North-Sweden


In 2019, the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with LIA Leipzig International Art Programme, offer artists from Nordic countries, in specific Færøer Islands, Iceland, Greenland, North-Finland, North-Norway and North-Sweden, residencies at the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei for a 3-months-period.

We offer an 80m² furnished studio to live and work in and a one-time payment of 500 € towards travel costs and material. Furthermore, the scholarship provides a full payment for the production of one print theme at the etching studio Atelier für Radierung Maria und Vlado Ondrej. This project aims at a Northern European print edition being produced to be part of a traveling exhibition. Please note, the team of the print studio also works with artists who do not work in the field of print making. They help and teach everything necessary.

This project is funded by the Goethe-Institutes in the Nordic Countries and managed by Goethe-Institut Denmark.

International Summer Residency Aschersleben 2019

Scholarship for 3-months artist residency at Besterhornpark

“Working, learning and be comfortable”. These terms describe Aschersleben, the oldest town in Saxony-Anhalt, best. Education, art and culture are important issues for the city, especially at the educational center Bestehornpark, in which the International Summer School takes place once a year since 2015. In the neighbourhood you find the Graphics Foundation Neo Rauch.

Altogether four artists will get the opportunity to be part of the artistic program which offers a studio and living space including furniture, electricity, water, heating and internet access for three months from June to September 2019. During their work, the artists will be accompanied by press and public relations. On the website of Aschersleben you will find further information about the studio program. At the end of the three month scholarship, all members will present their results in a group exhibition. The scholarship covers all costs for the studio and living space as well as a one-time payment of 200€ for material costs. Besides that, the city of Aschersleben provides several cultural events where the artists will be invited to as guests. Further expenses for travel, living or materials are not covered by the scholarship. For further information please click the link below to download the open call.

The application is open to fine artists who have a degree from an art school. The program is internationally advertised and welcomes the application of all artistic positions of the fine arts. The awarding of the program is decided by a jury consisting of five members of the program, representatives of the city of Aschersleben and art experts. This year's jury member are:

  • Dr. Annegret Laabs, director of the art museum "Kloster Unser lieben Frauen" Magdeburg
  • Laura Bierau, program coordinator LIA - Leipzig International Art Programme
  • Jörg Blencke, head of the creative workshop in the Bestehornpark Aschersleben
