THEATRE | A TRAGEDY MACHINE

TRAGEDIES ROLLING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. The reference here is not to coronavirus casualties to date, but to ZDFkultur’s tragedy machine. The machine lets you choose to watch any of the 23 scenes in Eine griechische Trilogie (A Greek Trilogy), a play performed by the Berliner Ensemble under the direction of Simon Stone. As a result, we, the viewers, become armchair dramaturges ourselves, weaving our way through the labyrinth of scenes to zoom in on aspects of the play worth closer scrutiny.

SOUND COLLAGE | KAMPNAGEL HAMBURG: MATRIX

NON-BINARY CYBORGS, humans and machines report on the state of emergency and their lives before and after, from a decolonial queer-feminist perspective, in MATRIX. MATRIX is an experimental sound collage in which Leyla Yenirce collects and arranges voices: voices speaking, shouting, calling out, protesting together – and falling silent. MATRIX is part of the Kampnagel Live Art Festival under the motto #ZIVILERGEHORSAM (civil obedience), a festival that brings together artistic and activist positions for an analog and digital experience in public and private realms.

DISCUSSION | CRISIS IMAGINARIES: CLIMATE TRANSFORMATIONS

A TALE OF TWO CRISES. The climate crisis and the corona crisis converge at this event. Carola Rackete, a German skipper and climate and human rights activist, and Dutch artist Jonas Staal will be asking crucial questions about both crises: What transformations are necessary at this pivotal point in history? How can they be implemented? Rackete calls for action in the form of civil disobedience and global climate justice against the “slow violence” of the destruction of whole societies and ecosystems in the global South. Staal explores the relationship between art and propaganda.
