Film In The Middle Of Germany: NSU “The Perpetrators – Today Is Not The End”

NSU Die Täter Beate Ztschäpe © Still: NSU - The Perpetrators, Director: Christian Schwochow

Mon, 16.04.2018

6:45 PM - 8:20 PM

On 4 November 2011 two suspected bank robbers set their caravan on fire and shot themselves as police was closing in on the vehicle. The following investigations revealed that the two dead men were Uwe Böhnhardt and Uwe Mundlos, who together with Beate Zschäpe formed the neo-Nazi group NSU (Neo Socialist Underground) and were responsible of a series of racially motivated murders between 2000 and 2007. Focusing on the perspective of the surviving Zschäpe, who turned herself in after the two suicides, Christian Schwochow’s film follows her path from listless, disoriented high school student to determined terrorist and depicts the local neo-Nazi scene in Jena in the 1990s where she met the two men with whom she was to go underground in 1998.
