Film In The Middle Of Germany: NSU “The Victims – Forget Me Not”

NSU Victims © Still: NSU - The Victims, Director: Züli Aladağ

Mon, 16.04.2018

8:30 PM - 10:05 PM

Enver Şimşek, a 38-year-old man of Turkish background who ran a small business selling flowers in Southern Germany, was the first victim of the NSU murderers. Manning one of his mobile flower stalls, he was shot on 9 September 2000 in a parking lot in Nuremburg. Partly based on the autobiographical account of Şimşek’s daughter Semiya (Schmerzliche Heimat: Deutschland und der Mord an meinem Vater), who was 14 when her father died, director Züli Aladag’s film makes palpable the traumatic experience of the Şimşek family, who not only had to deal with emotional impact of their loss and its financial consequences, but also with the ongoing questioning and accusations from the police, who suspected the murder to be drug related, thus turning Enver Şimşek into a criminal.
