A collection of life affirming shorts from 19 European countries
We are pleased to once more join our friends from EUNIC London for a new edition of In Short, Europe, which this year has been organised in collaboration with the European Union Delegation to the UK. After more than a year of restrictions, limitations and unprecedented challenges this short film festival wants to celebrate the slow return to normality with a diverse programme of short films from all over Europe.
Themed Happy Together, this third edition of the festival invites us to look at the bright side, embrace moments of joy, lift our spirits and dares us to dream. The festival connects a diverse programme of original filmmaking and presents a great opportunity to explore innovative short films and connect with filmmakers from all over Europe. You will have free access to nineteen short films from the comfort of your home. The films are organised in three strands: Hope, Magic and Life’s Little Disappointments.
The Goethe-Institut’s contribution to the festival is the short documentary Riafn by Hannes Lang (Magic), which takes us on a cinematic journey into the soundscape of the Alps. Partly documenting something real, partly imagining an ideal, Riafn creates a magical world filled with local idiom and song, calls and commands of farmers and shepherds as well as cow bells and animal noises. It is a joyous trip across peaks and valleys following rhythms and sounds of a life far away from our speedy modern life.
We very much hope that Hannes Lang will join one the Q&A on 11th May, which is one of three discussions with the filmmakers accompanying the Happy Together film programme.
The programme has been curated by Shira MacLeod, a longstanding advocate and enthusiast of European cinema. She has previously been Cinema Director at the Regent Street Cinema and Riverside Studios Cinema and brings her many years of curatorial expertise to the festival.
