ABOUT THE BOOK

Gustav Mahler on his last journey - the moving portrait of the exceptional artist. After "The Field" and "A Whole Life," the new novel by Robert Seethaler.

On the deck of a ship on the way from New York to Europe sits Gustav Mahler. He is famous, the greatest musician in the world, but his body aches, has always ached. While the ship's boy gently but resolutely cares for him, he thinks back to the last years, the summers in the mountains, the death of his daughter Maria, whom he sometimes thinks he can still see. Of Anna, the other daughter, who is just downstairs having breakfast, and of Alma, the love of his life, who drives him crazy and whom he lost long ago. It is his last journey.

"The Last Sentence" is a poignant portrait of an artist as a tired worker confronted by the past in the form of crystal-clear moments of beauty and regret.
