After the success of »Open Codes. Digital Culture Techniques«, a travel version of the ZKM exhibition »Open Codes« in Mumbai in spring 2018, the ZKM presents another exhibition satellite in the capital city of Maharashtra in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhaven Mumbai.
The exhibition »Open Codes. The Art of Coding« is an insight into new creative processes that arise for artists through the tool »Code«. The works show practical applications and thus formulate a definition of the new cultural technique that results from the tool »code« and data.
The works will be shown in the Open Codes laboratory in Gallery MMB at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai. For the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, the country's largest multicultural festival, which takes place every year in February, the ZKM | Karlsruhe together with Karlsruhe Entropia e.V. and local artists and hackers will transform the exhibition space into a multifunctional code and media art laboratory.
The works also serve as inspiration for the many workshops and events that take place in the rooms: Participants can embroider their own garments with the help of code or create their own environmental sensors with connections to Open Data databases and networks.
During the entire festival, all hackers and artists present will build several interactive light sculptures that react to the city's data flows or visitors' input.
