Onleihe

The Onleihe is Goethe-Institut’s digital library (eLibrary). More than 20,000 German language eBooks, audio books, movies, materials for German language learners, magazines and newspapers are available for downloading from the Onleihe. ​​​​​​​

Anywhere, anytime, free of charge

  • Borrow media - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Can be used on PC and laptop or mobile via the Onleihe app (Android and iOS)
  • No library membership required

Just a few steps to borrowing

To use the eLibrary, a one-time registration is required via our website at My Goethe.de. If you do not yet have an account on our website, please register. Registration and use of the media are free of charge. After logging in, click the menu item "My eLibrary" and then click “Register”. Open the Onleihe website once to complete the activation process.

Visit our digital library "Onleihe" and borrow an item from the collection. You can now read borrowed e-books, e-papers and e-magazines directly in your browser. More information in the Onleihe help pages.

Download the app from your app store to use Onleihe on your smartphone.
Open the app after installation.

Login to Onleihe

Open the menu of the Onleihe app (three bars at the top left).
  • Select Goethe-Institut as your library.
  • Log in with your My Goethe.de login credentials.

Download media

You are now logged in! Select the menu item "Browse" to search for and download media.

Accept terms of use

When you download a medium for the first time, you will automatically be asked to agree to the privacy policy and the terms of use. Please confirm your agreement.

Adobe-ID

We recommend reading eBooks, eMagazines and ePapers with the internal reader of the Onleihe app! If you want to read eBooks, eMagazines and ePaper with an external reader app (such as Aldiko, BlueFire or PocketBook), you will need an Adobe ID. The first time you download a medium, you must enter your Adobe ID once. If you do not yet have an Adobe ID, you can get one free of charge. You do not need to enter your Adobe ID for all further media downloads.
