Worrkshop Masterclass with Julia Wallmüller on Film restauration

In this masterclass instructor Julia Wallmüller, head of the project Digitization of national film heritage at Deutsche Kinemathek, will talk about film  preservation and why films need to be restored.
Explaining film restoration technicalities step by step, digitization, image and sound restoration, as well as discussing the ethics, aesthetic issues and guidelines of film restoration in general.
 
The masterclass will give the participants an insight on film preservation, digitization and restoration activities of Deutsche Kinemathek during the past years, demonstrating the process of restoration of the film DAS WACHSFIGURENKABINETT as an example.

The class will be followed by an offline screening of “Das Wachsfigurenkabinett”, at 18:00 / The Goethe-Institut Alexandria and Cairo. 

Who can apply?
The Masterclass is held in English. Participants should have good command of English language and are interested in film restauration and/or filmmaking.

About the instructor:


Julia Wallmüller graduated in Conservation and Restoration of Audiovisual and Photographic Cultural Heritage in Berlin. Since 2006 she has been working independently in practical, theoretical and educational digital restoration projects, constantly exploring ethical and aesthetic issues of film restoration. 2010 she joined Deutsche Kinemathek where she is head of the project Digitization of national film heritage.
