The thirty-year-old Afro-German Ivie lives in Leipzig and temps in the tanning studio of her ex-boyfriend Ingo and in a kindergarten. At the same time, she is applying for a position as a teacher at various schools. She lives with her friend Anne, whom she, like Ingo, has known since her school days. Ivie's nickname "Brownie" also dates back to these times. Ivie has no idea she has a half-sister until Naomi shows up at her door bearing the news that their father has died in Senegal and they are invited to the funeral. The slightly younger Naomi lives in Berlin, where she works as a bouncer in a club and as a shop assistant. While Naomi sees an opportunity to learn more about her family and herself, Ivie is reluctant to make the journey anytime soon. Naomi's attitudes and the news of the father she never got to know, make her question many things in her life.

In her feature film debut, Sarah Blaßkiewitz shows the many different ways in which identity can develop and become fragile, and how differently racism can manifest itself and be felt. With a sure eye for everyday situations, Blaßkiewitz calmly works out the differences between the two sisters and their lives, which also include the contrast between the cities of Leipzig and Berlin. It seems no coincidence that she places Ivie in down-to-earth Leipzig and partly associates Naomi with Berlin's night culture. The two actresses Haley Louise Jones (Ivie) and Lorna Ishema (Naomi) grew up in Germany like the characters they play. Lorna Ishema won the German Film Award for Best Female Supporting Actress in 2021 for her role.
