From July 1913, before the outbreak of World War I, a series of incidents take place in a German village. The film illustrates the distressing, especially for the adolescent traumatizing social and interpersonal climate of the time, which is characterized even in the close family of oppression and abuse as well as frustration and emotional distance.
Also the strict Protestantism is touched by the the critical nuances of the film.
