Contemporary European Drama in Translation on the British Stage
A conference exploring its absence in the context of Brexit
This British-Academy-funded two-day conference asks why there are so few contemporary European plays in translation produced on British stages? What are the barriers to the import of European drama? How might we need to reconsider our attitudes to our relationship to Europe and the idea of Europeaness in the run up to Brexit.
We are happy to support the presence of Ulrike Syha on the panel on Friday at 12 pm looking at what the British landscape looks like for European artists trying to promote their work in the UK. Ulrike, as well as being a playwright is a translator and runs the German committee of the
Eurodram network.
