EU4Dialogue - Open Call for writers and illustrators in Residence

Tangerines and Spices

Interdisciplinary Residency for Writers and Illustrators
20-27 June, 2022 – Armenia (Dilijan, Yerevan)
Deadline: June 9th

In the framework of the project EU4Dialogue, Goethe-Institut is calling for writers and illustrators from the South Caucasus (including conflict-affected regions) for the interdisciplinary residency in Yerevan.

EU4Dialogue is a project financed by the European Union, running from May 2021 to April 2025 in the South Caucasus and Republic of Moldova. It fosters educational and cultural exchange between professionals, students, and artists, with a special focus on overcoming existing divides.

"Tangerines and Spices" Interdisciplinary Residency for Writers and Illustrators

Aim
Fairy tales are very popular throughout the South Caucasus, so the residency aims to encourage writers to write new ones. Creating new fairy tales provides an opportunity to reflect on current events and motivates children to learn about new stories and literary characters from different countries/regions. In this way, the distance between the mythical and the real can be diminished, and even the invisible boundaries can dissolve as they enjoy each other's stories, pains, and joys.

The residency will focus on starting work on a collection that will include fairy tales from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, including conflict-affected regions. Work on the collection will be in two phases. Participants start creating fairy tales during the residency. At the end of the residency, the authors of the fairy tales selected for the collection have five months to complete the work and prepare it for publication.

The fairy tales written in the respective languages will be illustrated and translated into foreign languages (English, German) to make them accessible to a wider audience and present them at various international book fairs and cultural spaces.
