Rental Conditions

Rights

  • The archive permits borrowing of its DVDs solely to Institutes, Partners, Film-Clubs, Organizations, Universities, Schools. etc. and not to any individual person.
  • The archive grants borrowing of its DVDs free of cost and for non-commercial use only. Any admission fees may only be raised to cover the costs of renting a hall. Only a maximum of 1/3 of the usual local cinema admission fees can be charged per ticket. 
  • Copying of DVDs borrowed from the archive is strictly prohibited.
  • It is not permissible to sell, rent, lend, give or sub-license it.
  • It is not permissible to translate/dub, amend, edit or transmit over open-source networks without our permission.

Transportation

  • Any cost related to retuning of materials to the archive (courier charges, transport, etc.) is to be borne by the borrower and should preferably be handled by an official courier service. Films should be returned immediately after screening to:

Bookings

  • The request for the DVD must be placed at least 14 working days in advance from the date of the screening, including all relevant information on the booking form. For formats such as DCPs and Blu-rays, the application must be submitted at least 30 days before the screening date. Please return prints according to the dates mentioned on the booking form.
  • The films are to be sent back to the archive within 5-7 days after screening.

Screening conditions

  • Screening the film only in parts or any kind of the edited version of the film content for any purpose is not permissible.
  • All applicable aspect ratios for screening a film will have to be maintained.
  • Films are to be screened in suitable conditions using appropriate devices.
  • All screenings must comply with prevalent laws applicable in the country in which the screening is taking place.
  • The age limit for each film must be mentioned in all publicly circulated materials on the digital as well as offline platform.
  • Goethe-Institut is to be named and its logo is to be used as equivalent partner. A mere forwarding of the material not possible under licensing law. 

Damaged prints

  • Any damages to a film print must be reported to us immediately, giving details of the damages. In case of damage, repair/replacement, lost/stolen during transfer, a compensation of INR 2000 is to be paid by the borrower to the Goethe-Insitut. The Goethe-Institut reserves the right to refuse lending of films to those borrowers who cause damage to prints.

General Information

The Goethe-Institut reserves the right to refuse lending of films to any borrower who does not observe the conditions mentioned above. The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata will not be held responsible in the event that for some reason beyond its control a booking cannot be entertained. The source of the film(s) must be properly acknowledged, e.g by prominently mentioning „Film(s) courtesy: Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata“ in all publicity and publications related to the screenings of the films. Logos are available upon request. The logo of the Goethe-Institut can be made available on request.

Booking

All institutions intending to borrow films have to first register by using the form on this website. Your institution will be issued a client number to be used for all future bookings. After registration you can book films from our collection.
