After being raped, Hell (Bright), the protagonist, withdraws and starts practising shadow boxing, an Asian martial art of. Her neighbour, with whom she shares a toilet on the landing in a dreary, rundown apartment building in Berlin, is called Dunkel (Dark). The two women have nothing to do with each other and yet one day Hell notices that Dunkel has disappeared. She sets out on a search and encounters the mysterious March.
