Rajita Schade

Rajita Schade (b. 1972, Ahmednagar) is a Pune-based artist whose work explores nature’s fragility and transformation. Engaging with themes of extraction, deforestation, extinction, and environmental justice, her paintings blend organic forms with environmental narratives. A Fine Arts graduate from M.S. University, Baroda (1994), she has exhibited widely across India, with solo shows like Order Disorder (2017) and MORPH (2015). Her work has featured in India Art Fair, United Art Fair, and international exhibitions. Rooted in ecological concerns, Schade’s practice reflects on climate collapse and human impact, celebrating nature’s resilience while questioning its uncertain future.

Devrai: An Encounter Between Native and Invasive

About the project

"Devrai" symbolizes the reverence for untouched ecological spaces, while "invasive" represents the threats they face—whether from encroaching plant species or human intervention. This project explores how ecosystems are shaped by beliefs, spirituality, and society.
It highlights the role of sacred groves in preserving native biodiversity. By collecting and safeguarding native seeds, efforts continue to protect these dwindling landscapes. Through the tension between resilience and disruption, the work urges reflection on our role in conservation—calling for harmony between humanity and nature’s fragile yet regenerative landscapes.
