A monologue portraying a catastrophe for humanity

Endless View written by Theresia Walser and translated into English by Neil Blackadder is the third reading in this year's German SpotlightAnna Thomas directs the English reading of the play.

About the play:
Jona sits in her cabin onboard a ship, as catastrophe unfolds around her and slowly consumes her in its wake. She is on a cruise, in the middle of the ocean, with cable TV and entertainment. What more could one ask for! As the story unfolds, you see the cruise ship through Jona’s eyes, the eccentricity of her neighbours, the sameness of every day, the stopping of time as tragedy strikes.

Director’s Note:
Endless View is a play about the journey of the mind. It is a single person, watching the world around her collapse and trying to make sense of it all. But what was really interesting to me was watching her watch herself – the sameness of every day, being crazy and frenzied and completely matter of fact, all at once. Imagine, one person, one cabin, and an egg but with a fantastically, crazy-morbid-satirical story to tell. I was intrigued by this idea of a single-person frame and how we could bring this story to life.
