We invite you to a
listening session facilitated by
Pratyay Raha named
Dialogues and Frictions followed by a
DJ set by
Chutney Mary.
Dialogues and Frictions is the
first event in a series named
Listening To hosted by by
The Indian Sonic Research Organisation (ISRO). It will harvest newer ideas of listening practices and delve deep into diverse concepts and stories which can be shared through collective listening.
Curated by
Pratyay Raha, Artist in Residence at the ISRO,
Dialogues and Frictions is a sonic journey through the ideas of friction and conflict imagined, recorded and presented by various composers around the world. Here conflict can be seen as external (social, political, cultural) or deeply internal (personal, psychological, psychosomatic) or open to radical imaginations and possibilities.
This session will invite and encourage active listening and position the audience in the context of friction, change and evolution. It will also be a space for discussions and inputs from the audience about their own idea of friction and conflict. The session features compositions, recordings, radio broadcasts and film sound by
Ritwik Ghatak, Satyajit Ray, Hanoi Hannah, Peter Cusack, Nour Sokhon, Jelena Perisic, Nilimesh Ray, Anustup Roy, Shreemoyi Dutt, Sourav Prakritibadi and
Pratyay Raha and will last for an hour.
The second section of event will be a
DJ set of vogue and ballroom music by Chutney Mary.
Chutney Mary was born at the intersection of performance art, queerness and the spirit of experimentation. She is the alter ego of interdisciplinary artist
Avril Stormy Unger. Chutney Mary is a DJ, stand-up comic, MC, dancer and pushes boundaries and norms of gender, sexuality, patriarchy and societal norms through a myriad of performances.
