Talk | An evening of conversation between Ulrike Almut Sandig and Sandip Roy

​​​​Ulrike Almut Sandig

Ulrike Almut Sandig grew up in Nauwalde, Saxony, and lives with her family in Berlin. She published her first literary texts as posts on posters and free postcards in the streets and cafes. She published numerous volumes of poems and stories, music albums and radio plays. Her novel Monsters Like Us (2020) received critical acclaim; the English translation will be published in spring 2022 by Seagull Books, which also publishes Karen Leeder's English translations of her poems. Sandig has performed interventions in public spaces in India, given readings at festivals, and concerts with the fusion rock band Alif, led by poet and singer Mohammad Muneem Nazir. She was most recently honored for her work with the Roswitha Literature Prize (2020) and the Erich Loest Prize (2021). She leads the Ukrainian-German Poetry Collective Landscape and is a member of the German P.E.N. section. In March, Schöffling-Verlag will publish her new poetry collection "Leuchtende Schafe".

Sandip Roy

Sandip Roy is a writer, radio host and columnist in Kolkata. His work has appeared in the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Times of India, Firstpost and other publications. His audio dispatch from Kolkata airs weekly on public radio in San Francisco. He is a columnist for Mint Lounge and hosts the Sandip Roy Show on Audio Express. His award-winning first novel is ‘Don’t Let Him Know’.
