A scenic reading of the play

The Play
Lou just wants to belong in her class. She tries everything to make sure she succeeds, but it's not that easy: the big nose, the massive body, the horn in general, the thick skin, Lou cannot even chew gum properly, leggings don’t look good on her at all, and while twisting a rubber band she just ends up getting tangled - and how clumsy she always acts! But no wonder, Lou is a rhinoceros! The parents and Mrs. Vögeli, the teacher, are not sure whether a rhinoceros with its peculiarities will fit in well with the other children. A solution is needed: Integrate him into the class with patience and attention? Back to the zoo? Throw water balloons at it? Or even drop a cabinet on the animal? The class has a better idea.

The Playwright
Tina Müller was born in 1980 in Zurich. She did a degree in cultural studies in Hildesheim and studied dramatic writing at the UdK University of the Arts Berlin. In 2007/2008 she won the Autoren labor competition at the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf with her play Verlassen (Abandoned). For the plays she wrote as a youth – Bikini in 2008 and 8 Väter (8 Fathers) in 2010 – she won several awards. In 2017 she was awarded the Mülheim Children’s Play Prize for Dickhäuter (The Thick-Skinned).
Tina Müller is a member of the performance group magic garden. She lives in Berlin.
