Interior Design as a Contemporary Art Medium in Germany

The ifa touring exhibition Come-in investigates the connection between art and design. Twenty-five artistic positions show single objects, sculptures, installations, videos, and – in the exhibition catalogue – inserts.

These works seem to be assignable to specific areas: “furniture”, “lighting”, or “interior”. But in fact they are much more an idea or draft, or scenic representations of situations conditioned by certain furnishing and architectural elements. This leads to further associations and links that cannot be measured by the criteria of applied art, as they transcend function.

The international aspect of this discourse is expanded by ifa inviting all institutions participating in this touring exhibition to include local artistic positions that address this theme in a comparable way.

The exhibition curators are Dr. Renate Goldmann, director of the museums of the city of Düren, and Volker Albus, professor at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, both Germany.

Participating local artists are Shreyas Karle, Shilpa Gupta, Pravinsinh Solanki, Susanth CS.
