A two day programme

One of the foremost directors in Hindi Cinema, Bimal Roy was known especially for his sensitive storytelling, and brilliant camera work. His films dealt with social and humanist concerns. The two day programme will consist of screenings and panel discussions. The following films will be screened:

Sujata   |   3 pm
Director: Bimal Roy, b/w, 161 min., 1960
The movie basically revolves around the caste system that is prevalent in India even to this day.

Devdas: A Discussion   |   6 pm
A conversation between Rashna Imhasly and Joy Roy, which will look at the social and psychological underpinnings of Devdas. The conversation will be moderated by Nasreen Munni Kabir.

Devdas   |   6.45 pm
Director: Bimal Roy, b/w, 159 min., 1955
Based on the novel by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, the story stresses on the social customs that prevailed in Bengal in the early 1900s, and still remain strong.
