"Between the Lines" documents the efforts of photographer Anita Khemka to get closer to the life of the hijras, the eunuchs of India. As outsiders on the margins of society, they live an existence full of contradictions: hijras are infertile, yet in the eyes of many Indians they have the gift of donating fertility.
And although they are castrated, eroticism is omnipresent in their lives. Between the Lines accompanies three of these special people.

Dir.: Scott Willis

Francesca Woodman's haunting images, many of them nude self-portraits, now reside in the pantheon of great photography from the late 20th century. The daughter of artists Betty and Charles Woodman, Francesca was a precocious RISD graduate, who came to New York with the intention of setting the art world on fire. But in 1981, as a despondent 22-year-old, she committed suicide. THE WOODMANS beautifully interweaves the young artist's work with interviews with the parents who have nurtured her professional reputation these past 30 years, while continuing to make art of their own.

A filmmaker turns forensic detective as she pieces together hundreds of photographs in search of what she believes to be a buried history, only to find herself inside the story she is researching. The Host investigates the activities of British Petroleum (BP) in Iran; a tale of power, imperial hubris and catastrophe. While the tectonic plates of geopolitical conspiracy shift in the background, the film asks us to look, and look again, at images produced by the oil company and personal photos taken by its British staff in Iran– including the filmmaker’s parents– not for what they show, but for what they betray. The Host is about the stories we tell about ourselves and others, the facts and fictions we live by – and their consequences.
