Application Period: 1 - 30 June 2020

The Goa Open Arts CATALYST Grants seek to offer financial assistance of INR 30,000 to six practicing Goa based artists, irrespective of medium and practice.

The Goa Open Arts festival 2020 was a great experiment in galvanising the creative community of Goa onto a single platform. Showcasing the work of over 75 artists, musicians and performers across a range of practices and media, it received an overwhelming response from artists and audiences alike.

The euphoria has been quickly replaced by the impact of the ongoing pandemic. Over the last few months, the closure of institutional and educational spaces, galleries, festivals, workshops and other spaces of gathering has been an incredible burden on the artist community and for many artists, continuing their practice under these circumstances is going to pose serious challenges.

Against this background and to continue our aim to foster a robust creative community in Goa, the Goa Open Arts CATALYST Grants has been instituted— 5 project-oriented awards for Goa-based artists with the intention to help them stay engaged with their practice. Additionally, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai is supporting an additional CATALYST grant for media art, the winner of which will also participate in an interdisciplinary, co-working lab focusing on arts and technology organised in Mumbai.
