The opening of an online showcase

Cultural approaches have always been key to challenging gender constructs. ‘Images of Men’ uses visual art, movement and storytelling as powerful tools for dialogues around masculinity with students. The project engaged schools and their communities to reimagine the ‘images of men’ through a number of activities.

Through a series of workshops held with adolescents from Indus Valley World School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Rokeya Siksha Kendra, Piali Asar Alo and Ek Tara and using a specially designed toolkit for this project, the participants were encouraged to reflect on gender and allied issues. This online showcase is a representation of the thoughtful and creative responses generated through these workshops, offering an insight into the ways in which adolescents think about and engage with images of masculinity in their daily lives.

This project is within the framework of a larger two-year project titled M3 - Man, Male, Masculinity initiated by Goethe-Institut Chennai and co-conceptualized and co-ideated by Goethe-Institut New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Bangladesh and executed by ThinkArts, with its expertise in curating arts engagements for young audiences, along with Hamdasti, with its participatory community based approach to art.
